Confidence starts from the inside.
The true key to confidence is the mindset. You have to understand your self-worth and that you are valuable enough to put the effort. I truly believe that our Father made us as individual as the hairs on our head. With that being said, we have to embrace our differences. No two individuals from the mom boss tribe will be exactly alike. That my friends is truly beautiful. What rules your world, is not the same thing that rules mine. We can all get a piece of the mompreneur pie and can run our businesses with freedom and individuality.
Step 1: Wake up saying you can.
Positive affirmations are more than just looking in the mirror and talking to yourself. The reinforcement that comes from saying a few motivating words to yourself everyday in the morning can work wonders. Personally, I say one quick phrase, followed by my favorite Bible verse. Remember in my intro, I stated that confidence starts from the inside? Waking up and saying you can is the perfect way to start.
Step 2: Don’t be afraid to smile.
I have to admit, I have had braces before. And, although my teeth have been straight for over 20 years, they were stained from all of my previous coffee indulgences. I used to grin in public because it was just easier. (You know, the closed mouth without teeth type smile.) Then, I ran across a company called Smile Brilliant and they helped me change my game. Their motto, “Smile Fearlessly.” Their specialty, at home teeth whitening kits.
I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. I have never tried any whitening systems before. After over a year of loving coffee, and wrecking havoc on my teeth, I decided to give it a try. The kit was packaged wonderfully and had everything I needed to whiten and help with tooth sensitivity.
About the kit from Smile Brilliant…
To my surprise, the system was totally easy to use. It started with me creating a mold of my teeth. I mixed up the solution (included in the kit with instructions) and pressed my teeth in for 3 minutes. Then, I used the pre-paid postage envelope addressed to Smile Brilliant (also included). After about a week, I received my custom-fitted whitening trays and they fit my mouth to a tee.
Next, it was time to whiten. I started with 45-minute treatments and worked my way to an hour and a half. You have to apply a thin layer of teeth whitening gel to your trays and let them sit in your mouth for the duration of the treatment. Be careful not to put too much or the solution will ooze out to your gums. Afterwards, brush and rinse as normal, then follow up with the desensitizing gel. I let that sit for 20 minutes in my mouth after each treatment. Do not rinse the desensitizing gel off, just go straight to bed.

The system worked great and I’m very happy with the results. Just look at this before and after! I know it’s extremely up close and personal, but how else can I show you the dramatic changes? Step 3: Dress the part.
I know. I get it. I’ve been guilty of the yoga pants dance when I’m not busy gaining clients. But, to increase your confidence to mom boss status, you’ve got to dress the part. This doesn’t necessarily mean pants suits or A-lined skirts, it simply means no holes, no rips, no stains, and for the love of all things, NO ILL FITTING CLOTHING. Rock a style that is uniquely you, but one that makes you feel good about yourself. When I go to outdoor trade shows to hand out business cards, I wear my traditional black tee shirt and dark wash jeans. My hair is neat and I’m bringing my A game.
If for instance, this was a more formal client meeting, I go for my black button-down shirt and gray slacks. In either case, remember to look everyone in the eye during conversations.
