Before I begin this Finding Dory movie review, can I ask a question? Is it possible to love Pixar too much? I mean the evolution this company has had is spectacular. Not only in the sense of animation technology but also in the concepts presented to us with the storylines. Thirteen years ago, 2003, we were taken on a quest for Finding Nemo. The message was to let go of fear. Live life. Explore. Teaching our children not to fear is important. Teaching parents to have courage is equally as vital. Pixar understood that from even way back then.
So, fast forward now to 2016. A sequel is released, Finding Dory. What appeared to be deep, is only deeper now. The same message of being brave is given; but this time, there’s more elaboration. We get to see a full circle list of events that make this movie as flavorful as chocolate ice cream topped with salted caramel AND sprinkles. A full complexity of tastes that suits both adults and children alike. Continue reading to learn more.

The MPAA rating
Regarding the subject of rating, the Motion Picture Association of America film rating system, gives it a PG. That means it’s generally appropriate for children of all ages; however, some scenes may bother them. There may be a few instances where the subject matter is a little too complex for a child under 6 to understand, at least from the first viewing. Furthermore, the amount of dialogue, and its nature, seem slightly heavy since Dory is a consistent talker with a elevated vocabulary.
The subject matter
As stated above, the subject matter may be a little nonsensical to a younger viewer. All the same, the characters are pleasing; which is why my 4 year old still enjoys the movie. Pixar does an excellent job at teaching empathy through facial expression, even on fish and octopus. This is important because the joy within the characters is what carries the movie, even when some scenes seem a bit long.
Final note for our Finding Dory movie review
For this Finding Dory movie review we give it an A. Without spoiling it for everybody, there is one remarkable scene that makes this movie all worth watching. It is a scene that shows the very essence of parenthood. Dory’s family, never gave up. The climatic factor of that one particular scene left the entire theater awe-struck. It was beautiful. Also noted, there were some unexpected twists that gave the movie life. I would’ve never expected the place where Dory was actually found.
